Harry Potter Release...Part One
Jul. 15th, 2005 11:55 pmUpdate for Friday, July 15th.
I sort of petered around the house, trying to figure out the exact plans for going up to
melissa_actress's house. It turned out my ride,
mon_of_the_dead had an appointment Saturday morning, so I latched onto the idea of taking the train from San Juan Capistrano up to Burbank.
It was terrific! Packing in a rush, picking up my hemmed "Coed Naked Quidditch" t-shirt in the nick of time, and getting to the station with only enough time to run to get my ticket and run to get my bags from my grandmother as the train was coming in, it was a little hectic. The train ride was nice, though. I had loaded many pages of I am a Japanese Schoolteacher" editorials to read, and had a goodly time doing so. Let me tell you - these things are funny. Stomach-clenching, breathless funny. The author is a very large American black man who is teaching English at several Japanese schools, and his commentary on the culture is funny as hell. Go read them. Start at the beginning and read through.
I met up with Melissa at Burbank, no problem, and we headed over to the Barnes and Noble where I had reserved my book. It was also the Barnes and Noble where the store was going ALL OUT with very Hollywood-esque theatricality. There were like three print reporters and two news crews there. I can't even begin to go into how many booths and activities were set up around the store to participate in. All I can say is that there were A LOT. We ran to get a disposable camera, and I will post pictures soon.
( Here are some news stories about the event )
I will write about various events at the book release once I have the pictures, in a follow-up post.
For the rest of the evening, Melissa and I heroically set aside HBP and instead watched The Prizoner of Azkaban movie. I actually went to bed without even cracking my copy open. But I'm reading now...oh, yes, I'm reading now....
