Saturday I was up early, and took myself out on a "me" date and some very fun "chores."

My first order of business was to take my SD-card to Bartell's and use their Kodak kiosk to print some pictures. This is actually a really cool set-up; easy to use, quick, with very high quality digital prints, and my nine prints were about $3.00. Neat.

Next, I headed downtown and had my favorite sandwich in Seattle - a grilled blackened salmon fillet with grilled onions, lettuce, tomato, and rosemary mayo on baguette - at the Market Grill in Pike Place Market. Amazingly, even though the weather was clear, the market was surprisingly empty at lunchtime. I was able to actually walk into the arcade and to the counter at the Market Grill without having to pause once for a tourist taking pictures of fish. Astonishing.

My sandwich itself was utterly delicious, with every ingredient at its peak of freshness, perfectly blending into a symphony of edible awesomeness. It's strange - a spread of plain mayo on any other sandwich quite literally makes me gag in revulsion, but something about the addition of chopped fresh rosemary transforms Market Grill's mayo into God's condiment. I don't get it, either.

After lunch, I headed over to Aaron Brothers and their semi-annual Buy One, Get One for a Penny frame sale. This was the fun part of my chore. I've had photos I've been meaning to frame for - no shit - 13 years and never got around to taking care of:

Perhaps most satisfying is my Polaroid of me and Jay Leno (along with my Tonight Show ticket from that night), which has been tacked to a cork board since 1997. They finally got a clear glass frame to display both. It's strange that it took so long, considering that my Pierce Brosnan-signed martini glass from the same night was almost immediately put into a custom display case. As in, I went to a sports memorabilia shop and ordered the case the next day.

In any case (pun intended, hardy-har), it was satisfying to get both pieces of memorabilia properly displayed together, at last.

I also had several family photos, acquired during my last trip to San Clemente. Many of them were very small - only 3.5 by 5 inches - so I bought a bunch of cute tiny little frames and cropped the pictures accordingly. There's one of me at about five years old, in front of a Christmas tree, wrestling a stuffed teddy bear that is literally bigger than I am. I'm in a green jumper. Comedy gold.

And of course (and most pressingly) there were my photos of me with Penn and Teller, from their tour date here in early December. Going to all three performances meant three opportunities to meet them after the show and take pictures - which is a good thing, because looking at the first night's pictures, I realized I had gone into a kind of fugue state while the picture being taken, and not looked at the lens of the camera. It gave my face a weird, disconnected expression, especially since P&T (the professionals) are looking into the camera, like, you know, professionals.

Unsurprisingly, my pictures from after the third performance were the best, and they've been framed along with a signed 3 of Clubs playing card, also in a mini frame. The arrangement of the mini frame nicely blocks the lady who is photobombing in the background of my picture with Teller. I would have simply Photoshopped her out if my goddamned Acer computer was still working, but alas...it was not to be.

After buying frames, I went to see The King's Speech. It was very good. It didn't have a single "bad" or stupid scene, and Colin Firth was completely convincing as a stutterer. It was really pretty great, actually. Great enough that I don't have anything else to say about it. That's the problem with really good films - they're next to impossible to critique, unless one's reader has a reason to think the film won't be good. I'll just say that it's worth seeing, totally, and I'm trying to finish this entry before the end of my shift, so that's it!
