Monday was actually something of a delight, or at least the second portion of it was. As I might have complained to some of you, over the weekend I was sent a huge collection of files that were all due Monday morning - not when I asked for them to be due, as I wanted to work Monday morning. As I lost a good eight hours of working time, I predictably wasn't able to get everything done. I should say the blame there is about half on them and half on me. But this did end with me spending a lot of time frantically typing before hearing from [livejournal.com profile] bongirl5 and [livejournal.com profile] merrygentry about having a meal and visiting a favorite clothing place, Lady Deborah's.

Did I want to hang out? Well, I had cleaning to do, and I'm still not through packing, there's taxes, I had to send my letter authorizing my ex-landlord to split the deposit, but...of course, I'd rather go out! Hee! The girls picked me up, just fresh out of the shower, and we headed out.

Lunch was at the local Billy's, a satellite of the deli location in San Clemente, which was good if not as much fun to eat at. The San Clemente location is in a courtyard with a fountain, and is sort of charmingly dark and cavernous inside, but the San Juan was just a storefront. Boring.

Then we were off to the shopping destinations. The first was a New Age and/or Pagan kind of bookstore/supply shop. As I've gone very skeptical and mostly hate incense, this was not my favorite stop, although the shop keeper was very nice. What was terrific was her clothing shop, down the shopping district.

How I managed to never go into this store before, I don't know, but it's one of my new favorites, I think. This place sort of specializes in ever-so-vaguely Victorian, or gypsy, or Renaissance-style clothing. Not costumes, in other words, but not the kind of clothes you're gonna find in the average department store. They had lots of long, full skirts, lots of incredibly charming matching (or not) tops and jewelry and such. The stuff I liked was rich...damn, I can't remember the name of it, but it feels and has a sheen like my sateen sheets, and starts with "jacque"...fabric, with brilliant colors and lots of great trim. Outfit after outfit were so charming and beautiful it was hard to even shop properly, because I'd look at one item and barely have a chance to admire it before looking having to look at another.

And I did end up purchasing something - or rather, putting it on layaway. It's a sort of grayish-blue (but mostly blue), ankle length skirt that is mostly a-line from the hips to just below the knees, then had a lot of gathered, bright, almost satin fabric that falls to the floor and would kick about my feet when I moved around. Flattering, I think, and fancy without being "special occasion." I think I can get away with wearing it with a black t-shirt, for example.

Of course, all my dilly-dallying meant that I didn't have time to send the letter to my ex-landlord. Damn Daylight Savings Time, anyway! I lost track of the time precisely because the sun was telling me, "Don't worry, it's early afternoon. No need to rush!"

Right.

Bonnie wasn't feeling particularly well, so we went back to her house to just relax. Actually, this was a lovely part of the day, because we didn't really do anything except lay around her room and complain about not having anything to do. Or not being able to decide on what to do. Same difference, until we wandered out for dinner.

Pesto pizza, yum!

Instead of working I stayed and watched Monsters Inc. on DVD. Really, I just wanted to watch For the Birds, the short film that I gacked this entry's icon from, but I actually do really enjoy Monsters Inc.. I think Finding Nemo is Pixar's instant classic, but given a choice between the two, I'd rather see Monsters. Even though Nemo, and the rest of the Pixar films, for that matter, have some very touching moments, nothing quite hits me emotionally as much as Sully's very last reaction shot. Beautiful.

While on that thought, I need to get some DVD screen capture software for the Mac. There were several moments in Monsters Inc that I think would be spectacular for icons (and in many other DVDs, as well, obviously).

I came home, worked, went to bed...whoo hoo!
